If anyone knows the latest info. on Irish trio JJ72, please share it with me. When is the new album coming out? Did they leave Sony, or did they get dropped? Damn - it’s been forever, and I miss these guys. They just came up on my iTunes playlist during shuffle and I almost forgot how much I used to love their music, Placebo and early Smashing Pumpkins with a bit of Joy Division thrown in the mix, is what I usually tell friends. Plus, frontman Mark Greany is totally cute and might forever look sixteen. Their official website hasn’t been updated since last year and they apparently released a single “Coming home” in the U.K. last summer. The song is not bad at all, check out the video. I would kill to see them live since I haven’t heard much from them since Sarah Fox replaced their original bassist, Hillary Woods. I want new music. Release the album already, and let me love you again JJ72.
Haven’t listened to Hard-fi until tonight and turns out I love them. The singles “Hard to Beat” and “Cash machine” are on repeat at this very moment. Very catchy, fun stuff. I’ll have to track down the album…too bad I missed their recent show in Toronto.
I also really like Nightmare of you. The lead singer is obviously totally into Morrissey. Totally worth checking out.
I’ve been totally hooked on Rilo Kiley (and pretty much all things Jenny Lewis) the last couple days. She just has the prettiest voice (and looks totally cute holding a beer) and even inspired a new mix CD out of me. I’m making copies for some special people.
I originally wanted to keep it upbeat with just some great sounding pop songs (’cause I love a pretty, memorable, and singable melody) but I just can’t seem to stay away from those sad, slow, earnest songs. So it gets slower and sadder at the end. A lot of the songs were also played on One Tree Hill this season. I just can’t kick that show no matter how bad the writing can get sometimes because I adore the music that gets featured on it. The show’s second soundtrack is coming out next Tuesday and Tyler Hilton’s cover of John Waite’s “Missing You” is on it. I totally love that song!
I don’t suppose Ben Gibbard was thinking of the Beatles when he wrote “Sleeping In”, hmm? For some reason, every time I hear this song (and it’s my favourite off Give Up), I can’t help but think of “I’m only sleeping” by the Beatles. They don’t even sound the same, but I guess it’s just the theme. What other songs about sleeping are there?
Other tidbits: The Imogen Heap album is growing on me. I’m kind of sad Grandaddy broke up because I really enjoyed their albums. I love Aqualung and think Matt Hales is just precious. Youth Group are fabulous. Sondre Lerche is still as cute as ever. Dirty on Purpose are making their live debut in Toronto March 6th @ Lee’s Palace. Matthew Ryan’s music is beautiful and I love, love, love that James Blunt song.
Here is the tracklisting for my latest mix CD, the title is taken from the Rilo Kiley song “More Adventurous” of course.

This weekend looks like it’s going to consist of some shopping, checking out the Cloud room show @ El Mocambo, and watching Gilmore Girls (my friend Patty lent me her season four boxset, I totally adore the quirky humour and pop culture references). Must also get good rest before I begin my new job next week. Wish me luck.

first heard Hard Fi with their sublime, lowkey Help Me Please, found on last year’s Help compilation. i got the album but haven’t listened to the whole thing yet ’cause the first song i heard was rockier and not what i was looking at them for.

Hard Fi are awesome, my favorite song is Gotta Reason and Middle Eastern Holiday is growing on me. I also agree that Arctic Monkeys sound like the Libertines, but I prefer Arctic Monkeys a bit more. The lead singer’s voice sounds less jaded.

One Tree Hill Music
Even if you don’t like the stories on One Tree Hill, you’ll like the music….

Hey, in reply to your query about JJ72; I know I’m a complete stranger, but I’m eager to encourage people who like them to hold on and be patient - they really will be releasing the album quite soon! Granted they don’t know exactly when, but soon-ish. Sony haven’t dropped them. They rather wish in a way that they would drop them, but for now they’re waiting for Sony to give the green light (and the cash) to Lakota to release the album. New single first though, possibly “Take From Me”. Last live date was supporting Mercury Rev in December, but there will be more, soon.

Thanks, I’m still really into them so I’ll be patient for the new album.
